Ejecutivo estadounidense de la industria automotora. Fue contratado como ingeniero por Ford Motor Co., pero pronto fue trasladado al departamento de ventas, donde sobresalió por su exitosa promoción del automóvil Mustang, un modelo deportivo aunque de bajo costo. Ascendió rápidamente y se convirtió en presidente de Ford en 1970. Su actitud desenfadada hizo que Henry Ford II lo despidiera en 1978. Un año más tarde fue contratado por Chrysler Corp., empresa que se encontraba al borde de la quiebra. En 1980 convenció al Congreso de EE.UU. de otorgar a Chrysler un crédito por US$1.500 millones y aplicó un plan de despidos, recorte de salarios y cierre de plantas para hacer a la empresa más eficiente. La orientó hacia la producción de automóviles de menor consumo de combustible y emprendió una agresiva campaña publicitaria. En pocos años, Chrysler mostraba utilidades sin precedentes y Iacocca se había convertido en una celebridad nacional con una autobiografía –Iacocca (1984)– que era éxito de ventas. Jubiló en 1992.
